This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
Pray for our brothers and sisters in the Ukraine at this time. When I saw the above video clip, I couldn't help ask the question, "Why is this so beautiful?" It appears to be a simple family conducting family worship. And yet can something that is so simple and unostentatious bring glory to God? Absolutely. We're not seeing a man preaching to thousands and swaying the multitudes. We're seeing a man joyfully and modestly leading his humble family in worship. I have seen other clips of the Ukrainian church singing in the open-air their praise to Christ in the face of impending war and devastation to their country. What brings glory to God? Not numbers. Not flash. Not show. But a man or woman whose heart is "perfect toward him." For man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart.
When the fires of persecution begin to blaze, it is not with the intention to destroy God's people, but rather to purify them and make them shine even more brilliantly. Friends, whether we are in the Ukraine or Canada or Cambodia or the USA, let us seek to glorify God wherever we are—in the home or in the church. There's simply nothing more beautiful.
"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him." 2 Chronicles 16:9.
