This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers." Romans 1:9.
This was no empty statement by the Apostle Paul. Sometimes when we say that we are praying for people, it can be with the best of intentions, but sadly we don't carry through as much as we would like. This was not the case here. Paul said that as God is his witness, without ceasing he makes mention of these Roman saints in his prayers. What an incalculable blessing it is to have someone praying for you in this manner.
How is this possible?
I believe this is possible when the heart is engaged. "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matt 6:21. When your heart is engaged, when you have burden and desire, it will become easy. Remember what was said when Jacob served Laban for seven years? "They seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her." Gen 29:20. Isn't that an amazing thing? But we have all experienced it to one degree or another. Haven't there been seasons of prayer when you felt you could go on for hours? Someone once said, "faith makes all things possible, love makes all things easy." When God puts someone or something on our heart, WE CAN REALLY PRAY. And we can pray without ceasing.
What has God burdened you with? Ask God to give you a burden. And then pray without ceasing for it. May God touch our hearts and give us this kind of praying power.
