Words are important. This is a such an understatement. The words we use in conversation have the power to build up or to tear down. James 3 has something to say about that. Words are also important as we seek to witness. Sharing a smile is one thing. Sharing some words is a completely different thing. There's a phrase that is commonly attributed to Francis of Assisi: "Preach the gospel and if necessary, use words." As much as I understand the sentiment, I would like to submit an alternate phrase, "Preach the gospel and use words, they're necessary!" We can communicate something of the beauty of Christ by our life to be sure, but how much better to communicate the actual words of life.
Dr. John Vaughn has written a book entitled, Conversations—How to Engage in Gospel Conversations. This project is special to me because it encapsulates in summary form the words and conversations of a dear brother in the Lord over his life. 100% of all profits go toward the John C Vaughn Evangelistic Association so we would encourage you to purchase a book and support this good work.
In this present age of Zoom meetings, texting, and social media, it seems the rising generation has largely forgotten the art of in-person conversation—particularly, gospel conversation. Written in a storyteller’s style, Vaughn recounts some fascinating conversations with various individuals from every walk of life. Whether it's a childhood friend, an unsaved brother, an angry man with a loaded pistol, a world-renowned scientist, or a soldier with only hours to live—you'll not only find these conversations thoroughly interesting but wonderfully instructive.
