United Prayer Journal // DAY 154
This resolution of  Daily United Prayer  is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
"The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi. 'I have loved you,' saith the Lord." Malachi 1:1-2.

The Lord has a burden. Isn't that an amazing thought? Let that sink in. He strongly desires to communicate something very important to us. It's the "burden of the word of the Lord to Israel." And what is that word? I HAVE LOVED YOU. This little book of Malachi explodes out of the starting gate with this incredible message: God loves us. This is the message that the Lord wants us to get into our hearts. Is there any other "god" or "deity" that expresses their love to lowly man like our God? Our God is unlike any other god in the LOVE that He shows to His people. John 15:13 states, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." This is the greatest expression of love possible and it was demonstrated by the greatest Being of the Universe to fallen humanity. Indeed, "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16. As we approach God in prayer, let us remember that we come to a loving Heavenly Father who truly does LOVE us. If there are days when you don't feel it or when you have a hard time believing it, simply look into the face of Jesus Christ and see Him hanging on the cross. GOD has proven His great love for us in giving us His only Son. And, "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" Romans 8:32.

Let us not be as the children of Israel who in Malachi 1:2 responded in unbelief by asking, "Wherein hast thou loved us?" What an insult it is to our gracious God who spared not His own Son for us only to have us then turn around and ask the question, 'Wherein hast thou loved us?' Is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ not enough to satisfy our carnal, faithless hearts? Oh, what an affront! How injurious! Do not so insult God's love. Hebrews 6:13 tells us, "For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself." Similarly, God cannot demonstrate His love for us in any greater way. Let us receive this truth with glad and receptive hearts today. GOD LOVES US!
