The president of Southwest Baptist University announced his resignation this week, a move that comes amid a period of turmoil for the school. President Eric Turner started his role in 2018, and controversy between the school and its affiliated convention, the Missouri Baptist Convention, marked his term.
Next week, representatives from Missouri Baptist churches will gather outside St. Louis for the annual meeting of the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC). I believe that if the SBC convention were to get hold of the president and slow the regression that has demoralized our denomination from the embrace of cultural communism and reaffirm that each church is a separate body that answers to God and the bylaws of their own church. Not the convention, or even the faith and message, as holding onto creeds is often not fitting even for Baptists.
I read this article. It would seem that that MBC is trying to get a handle on heretics (including liberals) at Southwestern. Have seen this with other church bodies and seminaries. It's a messy and ongoing process. But someone has to police what is being taught. While the MBC hasn't done this perfectly, I applaud the effort.
Today at my Baptist Church during Adult Sunday School the new material in Church History it was about The Medieval Church. The sermon was given by Pastor Steve and was titled "First Things First" from Mark 12:28-34. It was about Jesus first priority.
