Tony Blair has defended schools teaching creationism - the belief that the Old Testament account that God created man is true.
He told scientists that their fears about creationism were "exaggerated", though he said it should not become mainstream education.
Mr Blair, who will deliver a lecture on science tomorrow, said the scientists should be worrying about the "big battles", such as climate change, the recent scare over the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine and stem cell research.
