Jesus, Thou art Heaven's Dayspring, Like a sunrise was Thy birth; Light and life to all men bringing, Shining hope o'er all the earth; Long had sinners groped in blindness, Pining for the light of day; God did visit us with kindness; Thou wast born to light our way.
Jesus, born as Heaven's Dayspring, Thou wast gracious, coming thus; Clad in flesh for priestly mercy, Thou as Man didst come to us; Human temptings, human crying, Pain and sorrow Thou didst know; And, alas, Thou, in Thy dying, E'en to depths of Hell didst go.
But, with blaze of noonday splendor Thou didst spring to life again; Thou to death its death didst render; Con quered all the sting of sin. Rose on high to rule from Heaven, Took the throne that e'er was Thine And the Spirit Thou hast given, Thro' the church Thy light to shine.
Soon Thou shalt return in glory, Take Thy saints to reign with Thee; We shall shine as stars before Thee. Round the ra diant crystal sea; Wrath in Hell did once await us, Thou our Dayspring didst appear; Heirs of Heaven Thou hast made us; We shall shine forever there.
