1. In the hour of my death, O LORD, Be present in my time of greatest need. Be near me, LORD Jesus. Hold me close in Thy loving arms And carry me away to be with Thee. LORD, as I leave my body, comfort me. Have mercy, LORD.
2. Now the hour has arrived at last. My hope is growing ever more secure. Thy blood is my witness. Thou hast taught me the precious truth, That death is an event I must endure. Beyond this death, a life with God is sure. Christ died for me.
3. Sleep on, body, depart away. For now, return to dust and fade from view. Take hold of His promise. Thou shalt rise and be glorified, When Christ shall come to heaven and earth renew. Then thou shalt put on incorruption, too. Wait patiently.
4. Soul, consider, thou art arrayed In garments of clean linen, pure and white. All purchased by Jesus. Dost thou hear now the Bridegroom's voice? Rise up to meet Him in the dark of night. Thy oil-filled lamp emits a glorious light. I see Thee, LORD.
5. Escort me to the feast of love. Swing open, door of death, on joy and bliss. My Husband is waiting. Farewell sorrow and farewell night. The trials of this life I shall dismiss, As morning breaks with Thy eternal kiss. I love Thee, LORD!
ENDING: Who is a pardoning God like Thee? Or Who has grace so rich and free? Or Who has grace so rich and free?
BIBLE PASSAGE:
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the LORD.
