Rev. D.J. Budding will retire from full-time pastoral ministry on October 31, 2010, and plans to return with his wife to the Netherlands. He has faithfully served as a minister of Word and Sacrament for over ÂÂÂ32 years, graduating from Utrecht University in 1978. He was installed as a minister in the Dutch Reformed Church on August 30 1978 in the congregation of Scherpenisse, the Netherlands and served there until 1982. He then served as the pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church in Nederhemert from 1982 - 1987, as the pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church in Elspeet from 1987-1994, and as the pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church in Waarder from 1994 – 2008. He moved to the United States and has served as pastor of Providence Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan from April 2008 until the present.
In addition to his duties as pastor, Rev. Budding was chairman of a reformed political party that had several members in the Dutch parliament from 1994 till 2004, he was one of the founders about forty years ago of the Reformed Daily Newspaper (Reformatorisch Dagblad), and has had continuing involvement with the newspaper which has grown to about 60,000 readers. He has written thirteen books, among which were explanations of Revelation and Daniel; the most recent book, Love in the Light of the Bible, being published in May 2010.
Pastor Budding has demonstrated a love for the lost, in his ministry to inmates at Kent County Jail, leading weekly Bible studies and monthly Sunday services. He showed his continuing love and support by many pastoral visits and letters, and by receiving them into his home when they were released for meals and personal Bible study. He also served the homeless by leading numerous services in Guiding Light Mission and Meltrotter Ministries.
Pastor Budding has shown much pastoral love and concern for the souls in his charge, and his ministry has emitted the sweet savor of the Words and the Work of his Savior and Master, Jesus Christ, and his delight in the gospel of Christ has been evident in the seemingly boundless energy in his labor of love in the Kingdom.
We acknowledge with thanksgiving the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord for the ministry of Rev. D.J. Budding, and commend him, his wife of 42 years, and his family to God's continuing care as he serves as pastor emeritus in preaching, pastoral work and writing books. We express our deep gratitude for his loving service. Phil. 4:9 "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
