400 years ago, the Synod of Dort formulated what are today known as the Five Points of Calvinism. These were a response to the Five Points of the Arminian Remonstrants. A better name for these five points is "The Doctrines of Grace."
The goal of Calvinism is not to exalt a man, John Calvin, or his theology, but rather to give God the glory and praise for the work of salvation by giving a biblical definition to grace. What is the grace of God? What does it mean that we are saved by grace?
The Synod of Dort defended the doctrines of grace, and in so doing defined grace for us. In grace, God has chosen unworthy sinners unto salvation, has graciously given His Son in their place, by His grace He irresistibly draws them to himself and in grace He powerfully preserves them in their salvation.
"For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that, not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8).
Our Pastor, Rev. Rodney Kleyn, will be speak on the subject, "The Canons of Dort: Defending and Defining Grace."
