Prior to the reformation of the sixteenth century, the "church" was largely confined to one large institution, the Roman Catholic Church. With the reformation, new denominations began to form which desired to be faithful to the gospel and God's Word. But, what should a church look like? How should a church be structured? What does the Bible say about the government and organization of the church, and membership in the church? Aren't many of the problems with the Roman Catholic church also related to its structure? The great reformer John Calvin was a pioneer in restructuring the Protestant churches according to the Scriptures. Through his work, God restored to the churches the centrality of the preaching of the gospel, as well as the offices of pastor, elder and deacon.

Rev. Ronald Hanko is our guest speaker this year. He is the Pastor of Lynden Protestant Reformed Church in Lynden, Washington. He has pastored in Lynden for 11 years. Prior to this he was a missionary for the Protestant Reformed Churches in Northern Ireland, and before that pastored churches in Houston, Texas and Wyckoff, New Jersey. Rev. Hanko has authored a number of articles and books, among which is his popular introductory volume to Reformed Theology, "Doctrine According to Godliness."
