I read a sermon on Sabbath from a Scottish Minister of by-gone days from Matthew 3:12 comparing Mal. 3:2. His good points were from my notes

1.God accomplishes his work by means of his Word, it is compared to fire for its searching and purifying tendency, a candle or light that discovers hidden things in the darkness, it cuts two ways to discover the thoughts and intents of the heart and divides between the soul and spirit making a discrimination between states and characters by laying down infallible marks of these and applying them convincingly to individuals. It all starts in each man's heart, and God can work with or without the means. 1. point of 5

Out of curiosity, how do you justify God's sending of his people into Canaan slaughtering everything living in sight and taking over their homes land and all?
Good question for someone who asks a lot of questions themselves. I do not have to justify my God, He is the Creator and for that reason His Word is the end of all contention. I'm a creature, so are you, You're not a computer are you?

Romans 9:21-33 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

Read to the end of the New Testament book for the rest of the story and pray for light from He who just says Let there be light and there is.

You can never find what your looking for when you need it, but I'll do my best. For any war to be just in God's eyes it to meet Scriptural criteria. Isaiah 2:22 Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of ? I believe it was something like:
1. The nation must themselves be just
2. The cause of the war must be just.
3 The cost of the war must not bankrupt the people
4. Eludes me at the moment but I do know that the soldiers all need one mind, one undivided heart, an allegiance to King Jesus as such and a vowed allegiance to the war waging magistrate who is building up his real church on earth. According to Isaiah 49
22Thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I will lift up mine hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people: and they shall bring thy sons in their arms, and thy daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders. 23And kings shall be thy nursing fathers, and their queens thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me

The whole Book is a good read for a praying people.

There is no dilemma. The reason there is so much disaster, tragedy and in pain in the world is... (Rom 5:12)"
[QUOTE]True, so true. I read in a sermon last evening that there are two reason a Good God baptizes his New Testament people in the Holy Ghost and fire. 1. To separate them from the world and 2. to refine them. A win/win for the elect and a lose/lose for the rest.

By looking at history.
The Church in Scotland is NOT dead, if you really knew God and His purpose you might have a clue about that.
You are aware that the "Remnant" is a small numerical size aren't you. Remember what Paul said when viewing Israel - Not all Israel is Israel.
Is God the power behind what happens to save the elect - or is it about numerical size to convince the mortals in your religion?
Thank you sir,

I am greatly encouraged by your words. Do you really think Neil is about numbers? I think his difficulties with these things lie elsewhere. Within the true remnant there are a variety of gifts, but the Scriptures tell us that the Jews as a covenant community had gifts and a calling. I believe this means an external gospel call but in the case of the remnant it was effectual. The Jews had/have/ will have "the law of commandments contained in ordinances;" Ephes.2:15 and gifts because in the visible church of the OT. For the Scripture says of the Jew their gifts and calling were without repentance. This seems to agree with Hebrews 6.and Romans 11

If what you are saying and I believe it is, is consistent with Mal.4:1 and Matthew 3:12 then what does Mal. 3:16-18 say we should do about it?

I have spent sometime considering this issue after years of first hand experience with the situation. The is gospel preached in Africa to a people already ahead of us in 'family' relationships by culture, either by poor influenced indigenous men or outsiders of various gospels. They are only behind us in the West in the experience of a post Christian culture. I suggest they might do well to consider why political dissent is wise. I grant that I'd prefer a Christian to a Muslim leader any day. Now define Christian. You'll not find a true Christian willing to deny Christ in their Constitution by default or neglect. If it is a democratic/deist/republican Constitution then it is man-centered and if man centered it is not Christocentric.

The article said:".. the Holy See has improved getting its message out online, with a dedicated YouTube channel and Twitter accounts, and its increasing presence on Facebook. Pope Benedict XVI has spoken out recently about how the church’s message can get out effectively and in entirely new ways using the interactivity of social media.

Yes, they and their ilk have joined the interaction on Sermon Audio just in case no one has noticed.

I recently read news from the Middle East commenting on Amercia's core goals and bad leadership. I thought that it was interesting they thought they knew them. I didn't. I suspected it was related to covetousness which is idolatry. You think the US desires insolvency? Maybe for the poor oppressed real Christians and there are not many left. But money is power and those in power need money to stay there. Even a one world order needs money to sustain it. Apparently somebody has some.

I was greatly encouraged in the truth, reading John 17 recently. The doctrines of Rome are not truth and that has been clearly addressed in great detail in the National Covenant of Scotland as has the divisions in Protestantism in the Solemn League and Covenant. Pragmatic men have done all in their power to sweep these true statements of doctrinal unity under the rug. But God has not forgotten. Exodus 20:7Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

It is my understanding that 323 years ago the Kirk of Scotland of necessity became political dissenters, when our Covenanting forefathers watched to their own great harm, the carved work of Reformation being torn down by both their brethren and the Stewart monarchs. Though they were grateful for the end of persecution, it was not the beginning of better things, but of the consequence of perfidity entered into by many in Church and State. There has been so great a distortion of history, that it boggles the mind. The Counter Reformation /Age of Enlightenment that was the result of nations like France and the UK working together has not worked for either of their good, as it is at the present time. Neither did/will this covenant breaking union with the Church of Rome.

Not long ago I read a 'witty' article about what states we could sell to what nations because their combined worth was equivalent to the debt we owed the respective nations. The greatest debt was due China and I think #2 was Japan #3 was the UK if I recall correctly. There were a number of others. We still had a few states left when our debt was paid.

I felt bad about laughing at his ironic solution, it is no laughing matter.

This of course assumes that God has no opinion about the present course of this nation. Prophets don't play the odds. So Barna is suspect for a number of reasons.

Does God have reason to judge this nation? We know he is angry with the wicked every day, and that Peter says in 1 Peter 4:17-19 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Why does any nation think that they can ignore their Creator and Sustainer and prosper. Might I suggest: 1 of 2 reasons
1. they worship and serve the creature rather than the Creator who is forever blessed.
a. this nation bought into the French Enlightenment/Counter Reformation and pragmatically let Deists take positions of magistracy contrary to our Covenants. This of course assumes an original sovereignty of Great Britain over the original 13 colonies. One might debate its righteousness, but not the fact. If God has one will and being Immutable he does, and though we cannot understand the depths of his perfect counsel, we do have what has been written in both the Old and New Testaments. God's will is, what is. His perceptive will and his providencial will are one and the same. He does not sin. Man sins. see WCF SC Q&A 4-11

In another related new article, elsewhere I read that Mr.Obama was cutting his South American visit short. He would not be able to visit the Mayan ruins (Mexico)as planned. I was wondering what was so pressing he needed to return. This?

jpw you asked what does congress have to do with this - Might I suggest their desire for a job and a nation.
God is still on the throne and according to Psalm 2:4-He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Must this be face-to-face or may it be virtual?
Many would argue that this forum, for example, is a gathering of the faithful.
You have misquoted the Scripture, for your own purposes.

Let me ask you a question. Called out of what?

Face to face is to be preferred but when providencially hindered one might use other means to keep the Lord's exhortation given through his apostle. We have examples of the faithful in church history in prison cells using writing implements. Computers were/are not always available. Can one sin with a pen and paper?

I would not argue that point, this morning heeding the words of Psalm 5:1-3 "Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up."

I said to the Lord these (on this forum) are all 'asylum seekers' under attack by the world, the flesh and the devil. Some are more aware of the battle then others but all are in the fray.

what's motivating folks to attend a weekly church service? Perhaps it's an occasional Lord's Supper or a little fellowship.
Hasn't digital media, inadvertently, unplugged the Evangelical church?
So, your answer is convenience. Shallow Christianity that can be content without fellowhip face to face and without a man ((not a machine) to care for their souls.

It still doesn't answer my question. How has it come to this? Whose fault is it. If I'm not mistaken these great messages on audio are preached in congregations each week. Yet it is some of their flock who are now sitting home listening to someone else's minister.

There is more to this, than a new generation.
