I've seen enough nonsense on History Channel to decide they aren't worth my time. As with much TV, ratings matter more to them than accuracy.

Pundits on the right like predicting or wishing for civil war, but it sounds like fantasy, since geographical and political divisions are much more diffuse than in the highly sectionalized America of 1861. Plus, the modern, well-funded and manned Armyâ„¢, unlike the more militia-based, amateur one of 1861, would quickly crush any organized rebellion even allowing for the traditional incompetence of most US generals. Unless soldiers mutiny or something.

It would take a long-running insurgency instead, but I don't think conservatives have the stomach or the wit for it. And look at how pusillanimous most Repubs have been.

Don't assume all of these people were Trump supporters just because media reports say so. MAGA types have usually been non-violent.

For all we know, these vandals could be Democrat False Flaggers or Antifa leftists, for they have a history of violence and misrepresentation. Maybe this was learned from the CIA's Operations Ajax and PBSuccess, although done in the name of anti-Communism.

It all comes down to this: Few Americans fear God, and are capable of doing anything to get what they want. Even Christians are not immune the such pragmatism.

OK, thanks! So Torrey contributed to "The Fundamentals." Google Books says some of these are of the Reformed tradition! Would you agree?

It does remind me that early 20th-century Fundamentalism was interdenominational. Billy Sunday was Presby, yet like the later Billy, apparently refrained from criticizing Catholicism.

I might read more IFBs, except they don't publish much scholarship or any commentaries. One doesn't need credentials to do such things.

Not at all! I should admit it's not just Thomas, who had a very complicated discussion about faith and reason, but the Catholic doctrine is, faith absent works will not save, implying that there is a faith which saves and a faith which does not. This is where the discussion by Protestant teachers of the Latin notitias/assensus/fiducias (and MacArthur's Lordship Salvation debate) comes in. However, the NT Greek has no such terminological or conceptual distinction: you either have faith (and are saved) or you don't. Faith may be great or small, but it still saves. Works follow from faith, as James says, and are not intrinsic to it.

Analogy: smoke is a byproduct of combustion; smoke is not required for combustion.

Once again, JBS writers tacitly label Roman Catholicism as Christian. But this is unsurprising when so many "conservative" Christian "leaders" have compromised with Rome.

And not just the big shots: One of the most basic and important Christian questions is, "What is saving faith?" Most pastors, even Fundies and know-it-all Reformed theologians, give the false Thomistic Catholic answer, not the Biblical one.

So contrary to what JBS thinks, the biggest threat to the church is not the gov't, but false doctrine.

Different model, the heavier hatchback, it's been like that since new. Most of the time, we drive at speeds (more than ~12mph) that EV Mode won't tolerate, so I don't know what its max EV range would be.

I did a spreadsheet study before deciding to buy. At the time, Toyota offered a discount which reduced the price premium vs. a Corolla.

It takes under 10min to refuel a petroleum-powered vehicle. And they still have superior range, even more if one carries extra fuel in Jerry Cans or the like. These plus cheap gas are reasons why EVs will be a niche product for the foreseeable future, unless fool politicians force the issue.

Plugin hybrids are a good compromise, though more costly than regular hybrids.

And if you live in California, don't assume you'll have reliable electric power, as that state's utilities seem to be devolving to Mexico's quality of service. Archeologists wonder why civilizations collapse. Well, we're living it.

This rich-vs-poor clichÃ© is a longstanding, tiresome Populist line one hears even from Trump sympathizers, but long before COVID, statistics have consistently shown Americans as fiscally irresponsible, big-spending debt addicts who do not plan for hard times. Dupes of retail propaganda they may be, but no one forced them to borrow and spend. Per Aesop's Fable, Americans are grasshoppers, not ants.

S. Korea also has a consumer debt problem.
