“ Great Sermon! ”
I am grappling with how to relate to a believing friend who has a son transitioning to be a women. Many churches are tolerant of this, your sermon has direct applications. Thanks for clarity!

World Population is estimated to have grown from 2.5 billion in 1950 to 6.5 billion in 2005.

If the human race is really 400,000 years old as claimed by the news item, then human population should been reaching 6.5 billion around 396,000 years ago. Ancient, written histories from Moses, the Egyptians, and the Chinese begin not much earlier than around 3500 years ago.

John wrote:
"Cavemen 'may have used language' "
Yes, but Adam was actually a garden-man and not a cave-man. He had the language to exclaim over Eve and declare: "Bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh!"

It was no accident that the first woman existed at the same time as the first man. God did it and brought the woman to the man. Even if Adam had "evolved" without an Eve, his race would have been extinct within a generation (Adam's generation). GOD made them male and female and enabled procreation of the next generation. It was no accident. But, it was GOOD.

"I say to you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city". - Luke 10:12.

Now, I don't expect to see inhabitants of Lot's Sodom in heaven, yet their judgment and sentence will be more tolerable than for those who have rejected Christ's messengers (see Luke 10:1-16).

It is not only individuals who are judged but places and generations are also judged. In our place and time, we have more information and more tools than any generation before ours. Therefore, we carry more responsibility than previous generations. To whom much is given, much is required.

Saving faith believes that God is a REWARDER of them that DILIGENTLY SEEK him - Hebrews 11:6

He who loves Jesus Christ will keep His commandments. God's covenant promises and mercy are for those who love him and keep his commandments. God will manifest himself to those who love him. (Daniel 9:4; John 14:21)

God commands us to love Him with ALL of our heart, soul, strength, and mind. (Deut 6:5; Luke 10:27). God gave us ALL that we have and now he asks us to give our all back to him.

Keep yourself active and working in loving God. Exhort one another to love and good works. Delight in him. Use what God has given. Righteousness and justice are the foundation (not love and mercy) of His Throne (Psalm 89:14 ESV). Justice is consistent with judgement according to works as taught in Revelation 20:12,13. Lack of variation in rewards and punishments would be unjust. Systematic Theology is great but God's Word trumps a theological system. God's grace and gifts are wonderful but we need to love the Giver more than the gifts. The gospel is not about the gifts as much as about Christ and His Kingdom. Responsibility to the Giver remains. God loves zeal and not lukewarmness or coldness.

"...behold, I come quickly; and my REWARD is with me, to give every man according as his WORK shall be." - Revelation 22:12

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the GREATER DAMNATION". - Matthew 23:14

"Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own REWARD ACCORDING TO his own LABOUR. ..IF any man's WORK ABIDE which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a REWARD".
- 1 Corinthians 3: 8,14

"But I say unto you, That it shall be MORE TOLERABLE for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee". - Matthew 11:24

"But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with FEW STRIPES. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask THE MORE". - Luke 12:48

Popular song: "If you want to be great in God's Kingdom, learn to be the servant of all".

Seeking wealth in the Kingdom of God to come (and not on earth) is actually commended by Christ.

"...lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.." - Matthew 6:40

"And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all". - Mark 10:44

When the US Federal Reserve lowers interest rates, it provides short-term stimulation for the economy and the stock markets go up. The currency markets for the US dollar go down and the US dollar is now very low against other currencies. This ultimately is inflationary and hurts our ability to import oil, electronics, and other products that we need.

If US interest rates go up, this will make borrowing more difficult but it will strengthen the US dollar against other currencies.

There is no "free lunch" in the long run.

Also, in the long run, we're all dead and destined for the Judgement Seat of Christ and beyond.

“ Matthew 4:23 ”
Mat 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. The gospel is more than forgiveness of sins. It is the gospel of the kingdom. It announces that the kingdom of Jesus Christ has begun to arrive. He has truth and grace. With Him is plenteous redemption. He has power, knowledge, judgement, justice, and mercy. His kingdom is everlasting and in His presence is fullness of joy.

“ King David had a beard... ”
Given the statements and context of 2 Samu3l 10:4-5, it is very likely that King David had a beard. He is usually not drawn that way by artists. This is a reminder that we can easily get impressions of the truth that contradict the evidence. More care in observation can often bring us closer to a true understanding.

Yes, there are promises in the Word that the Holy Spirit will quicken the understanding and bring things to remembrance (John 14:26). But, diligence is still required to study the Word.

Psalm 119:11 - "Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee".

The Bible Literacy Project sponsors the textbook called: The Bible and Its Influence. An educated person is familiar with his Bible.

Even in a secular, unbelieving context, there is much history and literature that continues to be studied which can only be well understood if there is a background of knowledge of the Bible (and Church History).

See ]]http://www.bibleliteracy.org .

"Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and Thy Word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by Thy Name, O LORD God of Hosts". - Jeremiah 15:16

"Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good..." - Proverbs 19:2

The Bible describes reprobate professors...

They profess that they know God...

...but in works they deny him...

(The Book of Titus commends good works as do many other parts of the Bible. Faith that is unaccompanied by good work is a dead faith and not a saving, living faith.

Salvation is never the result of good works. But, good works are the result of saving grace in operation.)

...being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. (Titus 1:16)

In the parable of the wise and foolish virgins (Matthew 25:1-13), there were TEN who prepared to meet the bridegroom (analagous to Jesus Christ). All 10 had lamps but only 5 were truly prepared were a full supply of oil (grace).

Only, "they that were ready went in with him to the marriage" (the kingdom of heaven). After that, the door was shut.

The professing, baptized church includes true saints but also includes hypocrites and false professors whose show is more outward than inward.

Although the gate be narrow and the path be narrow that leads to life, the gate and path are open.

Although He will not bring all of the visible church, yet, the Triune God is bringing "many sons unto glory" (Heb 2:10).

The Apostle Paul labored abundantly (1Co 15:10) with strong jealousy for those in the Church who were espoused to one husband, Jesus Christ, that he might present them at last as pure virgins to Christ (2Co 11:2).
