The LORD has answered my prayer! This passage in John 12 has puzzled me for years. And for years, I have asked the LORD to reveal the meaning of it to me. It has always confused me. The Greeks that sought the LORD Jesus were brought to the LORD by Philip and Andrew. The disciples then told Christ that Greeks had arrived, who sought to see Him. But the next portion of Scripture never made sense to me, as the LORD answered, seemingly not addressing the situation of the waiting visitors. He said, "The hour has come, that the Son of Man should be glorified". I always knew that the LORD would speak the words that were infinitely right and true at every moment, but I did not understand why He answered in the way that He did. Many a time, I have heard sermons on this portion of the Word, but in every case, the preacher skipped over the issue of the seeking Greeks and went on to expound the portion that included only the LORD'S sermon. Pastor Veldman, you are the first preacher who has specifically explained why the LORD Jesus answered in the way that he did, and His words were directly in reference to the Greeks coming to meet Him. And so, today, the LORD has answered my prayer concerning this difficult portion of the Word. Praise His Name. I appreciate the reference you made to Isaiah 53. O LORD! Give us more light! |

Thank you for this sermon. Your said on the audio recording (41.02): "I don't want fair, I want grace. Salvation is not a matter of justice. No, it's not JUST. Hallelujah. Thank God, it's not just..." I am shocked to hear this. God's salvation is infinitely just. He is a God of infinite justice. You ask, "Why does He save anyone?" And you answer, "Because He's in charge." But it's more than that, isn't it, pastor? He saves His people, because He cannot do otherwise. He is constrained by the Law and by His Own Decree. Their sin has been covered in the blood of the Lamb. He MUST come to them. Each one realizes that they are "justified", in due time. Their soul, being resurrected from the dead, is proof that their sin is gone. It was laid upon Him, their Saviour, long ago, in eternity past. To say that, "He's in charge", is true, of course, but you must say that the Father gave these souls to His Son. He has commanded that they are the recipients of eternal life. He MUST come, by His Word and by His Spirit, and He MUST tell them that they are without blemish and without sin before Him. And hallelujah, each one is overjoyed at the news! They receive a new heart that believes all that the Father hath said! Certainly, God is in charge. But He's not an Ogre. He moves in perfect justice according to His Covenant. |

Pastor, as you know... Dear Pastor, As you know, this verse is quoted, in part, by Hannah in 1 Samuel 2:5-9. Hannah prayed with great rejoicing, thanking God for answering her supplication for a child. She said, "...the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble. The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: He bringeth down to the grave and bringeth up. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich, He bringeth low and lifteth up...He will keep the feet of His saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail." I was amazed to read Hannah's recollection of Dt. 32:39, and to consider how she interpreted this verse in light of her personal condition. She was the barren woman, continually taunted by the arrogant "other woman", Peninnah, who had 5 children. Moses emphasized God's sure judgment upon the many wicked enemies of God and His people, while Hannah emphasized God's gracious lovingkindness in His providence to the humble, trusting heart. Both Moses and Hannah spoke according to one truth - "He killeth and maketh alive". What a wondrous treasure is the Word of God! In Christ, Mrs. Vick |

Pricked in the heart! We are following you, Angus, in your journey through the US, and we are praying for you, for the LORD's greatest blessings upon you. This wonderful message has reminded us of Newton's sacred poem, "The castle of the human heart
Strong in its native sin;
Is guarded well, in every part,
By him who dwells within...But Jesus, stronger far than he,
In his appointed hour
Appears, to set his people free
From the usurper's pow'r."
Safe travels, dear brother. Safe keeping and continued prosperity. |

Thank you so much, Dear Angus, Your message touched my heart with both bitter and sweet, as I have so often thought about all the many Elimelechs the LORD used to bring me safely home to the House of Bread. Praise His Name, there were many Naomis, too. You made me think that we Ruths must be on guard to resist Elimelech in our own soul, being so often tempted to go along with fleshly logic in a trial. I trust Him to make me into a Naomi then, that I might bring another Moabitess with me back to Israel, where Boaz is waiting! We love you all and long to see you someday soon. We follow along with every sermon, but we miss hearing the music. Love in Christ, Kathleen |

Great Sermon! The question you directed us to, "Where is then the blessedness ye spake of?" in Galatians 4:15, put the Cowper hymn poem "Walking With God" in my mind (Olney Hymnal, Book I, Hymn 3). Mr. Cowper says, "Where is the blessedness I knew, when first I saw the LORD? Where is the soul-refreshing view of JESUS and His Word?" Although the poem is inscribed to be based on Genesis 5:24 - "Enoch walked with God and the LORD took him" - the reference to Galatians 4:15 is striking. In a later verse, Mr. Cowper says, "Return, O Holy Dove, return, Sweet messenger of rest; I hate the sin that made Thee mourn and drove Thee from my breast." After hearing your message, I realized that "the sin" Cowper must be referring to is going back to the law for one's righteousness, since this is the theme of the letter to the Galatians. Oh, how this must grieve the Holy Spirit of our God! Thank you for reminding me that all our righteousness IS Christ alone, the Hope of Glory! Wonderful sermon. Thank you so much. |

Heard this message live during the Service Absolutely riveting. Mr. Chapman, you put aside the "line upon line, percept upon precept" sermon formula (ho hum) and spoke to fellow soldiers in the trenches, alongside us, from the trenches. The ones with the pillows sewn to their sleeves could never hear what you said, but to us - the destitute, the weary, the beaten and starving - it was a message from our Commander-in-Chief, our LORD Jesus Christ, saying, "I AM with you. These afflictions are My appointed gifts, that you may come forth as gold refined by fire". Yes, Mr. Chapman, someone is ALWAYS messing with me. Praise His Holy Name. Go on, dear brother, in the strength and the power of Him Who loved us and died for us. Thank you for speaking
"hard things, not easy to be understood". Fare no worldly ones can eat. |
