It is a simple fact that those who love Christ the most, holding him in high esteem, and reverentially worship and serve him, are those who are most passionate about his word, desiring above all things that his word is maintained accurate, both in the original Hebrew and Greek copies, and in the translations into different languages of the world. To have even one word removed is hurtful to such, and can be classed as theft, a devilish work.
Excellent comment John!

To stifle debate in the Christian forum is a sad thing to do. I have learned a great deal about Bible and theology through debate. One thing which debate has brought to me is to learn where I myself stand on many issues which I previously never thought deeply about.
Excellent, excellent comment!

I know, I know many people love the KJV with all its words which must be defined in 21th century English words to be correctly understood.

So? Why don't those who love the KJV just go ahead and give people a KJV corrected into the English words we use today for the sake of giving people the most accurate translation they can.

Instead of insisting people use English that is honestly out of date in numerous places?

Michael,

I don't expect you to believe me, nor do I have the energy or time to prove it right now, but the very words and language which you call archaic is that which makes the KJV more accurate than any other translations which use the contemporary English. The fact is, no one ever spoke KJV English. It's a Bible language created for Scriptural accuracy.

"A woman who was eight months pregnant has been beaten, locked up and forced to have an abortion in China for breaking the country’s one-child-per-family policy, her husband says."

And American women do it voluntarily. Compelled by convenience! Shame on them!

My cat's a Christian, I admit it! I even baptized him myself! I've preached the Gospel to him and he's been converted from his sins. I would not be willing to have a pet that wasn't a believer. Hope I don't get into any trouble over this!
But has your feline friend been catechized? And was it by immersion or sprinkling? Cats hate being dunked!

"I don't know how God creates. I don't know how we got here," he continued, wondering what God might tell him after he dies. "If God's like, 'Yup, you were a monkey once,' I'll be shocked, but I'll be cool with it." ...

If Glenn Beck hears God say that, you can be sure that it is not the God of the Bible. And this is the man in whom many put their trust? The simplest saint knows the story of Adam and Eve, but Glenn...?

From the article:

"So Juan Williams is fired for saying something the liberals at NPR find controversial?" Goldberg said. "One more piece of evidence that liberals have forgotten how to be liberal."

Isn't that the truth? That says it all!

Jordan wrote:
Sorry, Wayfare, but you're simply wrong. The Greek in verse 18 is (transliterated as best I can, I haven't looked at how to transliterate for over a year) monogeneis theos, not monogeneis huios. The former is what is in the text, meaning only begotten God, or more accurately, the unique God.

The term son is there as a textual variation, and it's in the minority of manuscripts. It's much more likely theos is the intended word.

How then do you escape the Arian position concerning Christ, i.e. "that Christ the Son was not consubstantial with God the Father"? This is also the teaching of the Mormon church. They say Christ was a created being or a created God (one of many).

The Authorized Version gets it right every time.

Every attempt at producing a newer and better translation is a denial of the doctrine of the sufficiency of Scripture. It is also an affront to the faithfulness of God.

"God, indeed, could not be separated from his own truth; for nothing would be left to him, were he regarded as apart from his word. Hence a mere fiction is every idea which men form of God in their minds, when they neglect that mirror in which he has made himself known, Nay more, we ought to know that whatever power, majesty, and glory there is in God, so shines forth in his word, that he does not appear as God, except his word remains safe and uncorrupted." John Calvin (Jer 20:7)

Good to hear from you John UK! I hope all is well and that God prospers your efforts.

Thanks, and congratualtions on being married 31 more years than myself. My wife and I got married in 2004. She's originally from Indonesia, and I met her at a Christian dating service.

We were both in our early 40s when we tied the knot (first time for each of us), so there's hope--even in the sinful and confusing times we presently live--to eventually get one's life sorted-out & find a mate. With God's help.

Proverbs 19:14

San Jose John,

Congratulations to you as well!

Pr 18:22 "[Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of the LORD."

We live in a day/age/culture where there is so much cool stuff to do and aquire that more basic, traditional persuits like marriage and family are often put on the back burner or not even engaged in at all.

I remember as a kid looking forward to having a wife and children, and providing for them; but by jr. high school it was apparent that women were being trained to be INDEPENDENT. Some of my male classmates even took home economics classes while some of my female classmates took wood-shop and metal-shop classes.

From that point on co-eds seemed like other "men" to me with greatly diminished desire for me, and me for them.

All this "progressive" education and child-rearing evidently swelled the pride and self-esteem of the previous generation ("greatest generation"?) but was VERY confusing and disheartening to me.

Still is.

Good observations, but I'm curious, San Jose John, did you ever find a wife? I found a good one thirty seven years ago and counting...

I did not deny that Paul made a specific application to the High Priest. What I was pointing out was that Exodus 22.28 has a wider application than just the high priest.
So does Act 23:5: "Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people."

By limiting the principle, Lurker has approved the practice, which he himself exemplified:

I have downloaded the VLC media player and still cannot play any audio or videos. Any help will be appreciated. Dave
scudrunner,

I don't know if this will help but I had to search for the MP4 files and open them through the VLC program itself. It does not automatically find and open MP4 files, so the default is still Windows Media Player, which will not play the audio. I hope to find a solution to this extra step...

Alan H

Just an observation: MP4 files seem to take longer to download. I know very little ablut them, so I don't know why this would be so. But the quality is very good.

Lurker, don't you think this kind of statement violates the spirit of the verse below?

Ac 23:5 "...Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people."

See also: Ex 22:28; Ec 10:20; 2Pe 2:10; Jude 1:8,9

I must admit, I am amazed at your boldness!

You can well blow this off as nothing but some nobody, well beneath you, asking impertinent questions.Perhaps though,it may do you good to consider this seriously.
Right on!

I am sorry! I have a very slow phone line. I am limited to either watching videos at the library or downloading them at the library and watching them later at home. I just tried a video I had down loaded and it wouldn't play the audio on Windows Media Player.

Then this makes a MP4 player necessary for us viewers. Windows Media Player will not play the sound on MP4 files. Any ideas?
