MBL Here is the commentary by Calvin, that grace filled Preacher/Teacher of the Lord.11. "The working of delusion." He means that errors will not merely have a place, but the wicked will be blinded, so that they will rush forward to ruin without consideration. For as God enlightens us inwardly by his Spirit, that his doctrine may be efficacious in us, and opens our eyes and hearts, that it may make its way thither, so by a righteous judgment he delivers over to a reprobate mind (Romans 1:28) those whom he has appointed to destruction, that with closed eyes and a senseless mind, they may, as if bewitched, deliver themselves over to Satan and his ministers to be deceived. And assuredly we have a notable specimen of this in the Papacy. No words can express how monstrous a sink of errors there is there, how gross and shameful an absurdity of superstitions there is, and what delusions at variance with common sense. None that have even a moderate taste of sound doctrine, can think of such monstrous things without the greatest horror. How, then, could the whole world be lost in astonishment at them, were it not that men have been struck with blindness by the Lord, and converted, as it were, into stumps?" (J. Calvin) Read and enjoy. |

Michael of Endicott The 5 points of Calvinism came about in respose to 5 points raised by arminians. The Arminians brought them to the Canons of Dordt, as a Remonstrance. So the 5 points of Calvinism, based upon Bible Truth, were in fact simply a response to the arminian heresy. Therefore you really don't need to invent any more, it's already been done for you, in 1619. ps: on repentance Acts 11:18 "When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath GOD also to the Gentiles "GRANTED" repentance unto life. Acts 5:31 "Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to GIVE repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins." If repentance is "granted" and "given" - then it has a source outside the mortal sinner. (Until Grace comes) EG: Hebrews 12:17 "For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for HE FOUND no place of repentance, though HE SOUGHT IT carefully with tears." Repentance the Gift of God. Just like that other gift - Faith. |

JD As per usual you misconstrue the words the verbs and The Word of God to further your own heretical purposes.Jn 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. = Whom the Father "gives" shall not only come to Christ, but will be retained BY HIM/HIS POWER. 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day = NO (R) NO mortal sinner can achieve this except by divine power. This person ONCE elected will be saved. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father = Again Jesus confirms divine power only - NOT human. Thus Confirmation of salvation Jn 1:12 But as many as received him, TO THEM GAVE HE POWER to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: And their CV/Resume` :- 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, BUT OF GOD. |
