Neither of those verses include the terminology "Lord's Day" or "Sabbath." All they say is that the early church met on the first day of the week. No one disputes that. But you will find no NT passage saying that the Sabbath has been switched to Sunday. So either it's still on Saturday, or, as Colossians 2 and Romans 14 tell us, the Sabbath was part of the Old Covenant that has now been fulfilled in Christ and it's no longer necessary that we keep it in the same way. Instead, every day is a day we commemorate the rest from our works and trust in Christ.

All days belong to Him, not just one as you say. If any day is more holy than another, I'd like to see evidence of that anywhere in the NT. But all I see on the subject is Romans 14's assertion that there were Christians who believed both ways in the early church and that neither was morally obligated one way or the other.

There is no implication of tolerance here. Only education, which I am in full support of. If our youth didn't know what jihad is and what the Muslims think they're accomplishing by doing it, that would be a huge problem. So I'm very glad that the public schools are brave enough to educate on this issue. I just wish they'd do the same for Christianity...

Christ's resurrection. The moment we start elevating one above another, that's when hedonism comes in, because people are encouraged to think that they only need to give God one day, and that the rest of the week is wide open for following their own pursuits. The Sabbatarian position is the much more dangerous one -- whether the traditional Reformed view that the Sabbath is on Sunday or the Seventh-Day view. Both undermine the holiness of every day lived for the glory of the Lord.

This is not, by the way, an attempt at "claiming back Sunday for hedonism." I do not deny that Sunday is the Lord's Day. But I believe that Saturday is too. And Monday. And Tuesday. *Every* day is the Lord's Day. Every day under the New Covenant is a day that we must fully dedicate ourselves to the Lord and worship Him, utilizing our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to Him.

Limiting the Lord's Day to one day a week has resulted in an epidemic of misunderstanding of what God requires of us. I would venture to say that the majority of people would understand Sunday as the one day of the week that we are required to focus on God and worship Him, and that on the rest of the days of the week that's not as important. How backwards that is! And it's all the result of legalistic Sabbatarianism that has drilled into people's heads the idea that Sunday is more special that other days, so God really wants us to worship Him on that day, as opposed to the other days of the week -- even though there's not one passage that informs us that this is our responsibility under the New Covenant!

We must worship God every day. There is not one day that is to be elevated above another in the New Covenant (see Colossians 2:15-17 and Romans 14). Each and every day is a celebration of C

"So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience."
Hebrews 4:9-11 ESV

Christ has accomplished it all. We have no need to work for our salvation. We can rest in His work on our behalf. That's what the Sabbath is all about. It was looking forward to Christ. Christ is our Sabbath Rest. We have no further need to worry about following legalistic rules about refraining from all work on Saturdays or Sundays -- especially because there's not one passage in the New Testament that can be found to say that the Sabbath was switched to Sunday.

This whole battle over trading on Sunday is quite fruitless, because if people would just lay aside their traditions and hold to Scripture alone, they would see that God has already given them rest and that the Sabbath is a part of the Old Covenant that was accomplished and fulfilled by Christ.

May God be glorified as we keep the Sabbath by resting from our works, our attempts to get right with Him by ourselves, and trusting in Christ alone for our salvation, not our adherence to an old, unbiblical, legalistic idea that the Sabbath is on Sund

John Yurich. As a former Catholic saved by grace I fully understand you wanting to hold on to your catholic roots. However, you need to honestly look at what gospel the catholic church teaches. I left the church and have grown in my faith and love for Christ. If you are a true seeker I pray the Lord will lead you into all truth.

Have a listen to the following sermon. It deals false gospels and mentions Catholicism. May the Lord guide you.

To the commenters who criticized my response and also subtly questioned the state of my soul, I want to say thank you for your concern. It's refreshing to see believers contending for the truth and willing to call people to examine themselves. However, I think my point was misunderstood, though I had tried to make it clear.

I didn't want to imply that I'm fine with the state of public education or the indoctrination going on in schools today. I was homeschooled and plan to homeschool any children the Lord gives me. But my point was that I do believe it is good and even necessary for all children to be taught those Islamic vocabulary words. I was taught them under the homeschool curriculum from Bob Jones University, and I'm glad I was. It's the Americans who don't know the meanings behind those words who are in trouble. And I don't see anyone calling out BJU and other Christian universities for teaching their students about one of the world's major religions.

I agree that it's a shame that the same attention isn't given to Christianity. And I also think that there have been times where public education on Islam has gone too far. But my primary point was that, in this case, I think the uproar was exaggerated and unnecessary, because it's very good for students to be learnin

Who cares????!! I will be teaching my children those vocabulary words in their homeschool education. Those are words that any American citizen should know the meanings of, if only because of how Islam is rising in the world. I sometimes get so frustrated with Christians who will get all upset because kids are learning about other religions at school.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not pro-public education, but I think learning about different religions is extremely important. How could you function in the world if all you were ever taught was Christianity? I think it's ridiculous that these same people who are outraged about Islamic vocabulary words will protest when Christianity isn't taught and would be perfectly fine if students were taught Christian vocabulary words. There's a double standard here that a lot of Christians apparently aren't able to see.

Ugh, if he could only spend some time with a true creationist who can succinctly, intelligently present the scientific evidence for a young earth and against an old earth. I'm sure he would be open-minded and receptive if he only heard the evidence. Perhaps he still wouldn't want to say so on a national platform, so as not to potentially "discredit" himself as a scientist/physician in the eyes of the public; but at least he wouldn't think there's "no basis" for young-earth creationism.

Funny how this is pretty much an admission of guilt. If the compensation they were receiving was totally above-board and legal, they wouldn't have had to stop taking it. And if it were true, like they initially said, that this was money their employees needed, because it takes a significant amount of work to procure these parts, then I don't think they would have brought an end to the practice. So obviously something wasn't being done quite properly and legally, and in in order to avoid an investigation, they just stopped taking money period. Because somehow it's still legal to procure and deliver baby body parts for research. Just not for any sort of profit.

As in the case of the Gold King incident, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an agenda behind this one as well. In the previous one, having a big disaster like that got the EPA all of the funding money in that area that it had been denied for several years. So that was clearly intentional. It'll be interesting to see if it's the same kind of situation here.

@jamie: But the verse doesn't say "forgiven." That's a given for a believer. It says "blameless." That carries several connotations, one of which, I would think, is that the prospective elder doesn't have any blatant sexual stains in his past. It's just not wise, which I why, I think, Paul put "blameless" as one of the qualifications.

“ Great Sermon! ”
The "full-frontal nudity" thing is a joke... That has been made clear. Kermit is almost always totally naked, so they're making a risqué joke out of that. To my knowledge, there are no expressed plans to have genitals added to the Kermit puppet. The whole point of it is to emphasize that the show will feature adult humor and adult relationships. Obviously, that is still repulsive to Christians. But I think it's dishonest and unfair to report that the Muppets are being promoted to an NC-17 rating, or the TV equivalent, because of a passing joke. There will be no nudity, just a ton of inappropriate humor. I understand the point about allusions to beastiality. However, I still don't think that is the intention behind the series. Yes, they are making a slight allusion that's intended to be humorous. So it's still repulsive. But beastiality is still a very taboo topic even in our perverse culture. So I doubt that the references will go very far. Bottom line: I would prefer more accurate reporting, not unfair speculation and blowing things out of proportion based on a single inappropriate joke.

@s c: The one thing I really can't stand about him is that nearly every time I catch one of his sermons, it's almost always dealing with End Times. He is *so* preoccupied with Revelation and prophecy and Daniel and political events... it's just ridiculous. Probably half of his books are on that subject matter. So he really holds very little credibility in my mind for that reason alone. And I'm sure there are others.
