Yep, it was suicide. I was right.

(1) "bad arguement" ??? - Because I don't agree with you. C'mon Kyle you can do better than that.
(2) Again like others on the board you are REPLACING justice with a gun!!! Lynch mob rule!!
Technically, you're right. I disagree with you that I am trigger happy and murderous. Unless you know that to be true, it borders on slander.

I never said anything about replacing justice with a gun. Nobody on my side of the argument has. This is the vigilantism straw man again. It's not my place to execute justice. That's the God ordained role of government. It decidedly IS my place to exercise defense against attack. There's a difference.

It's bad arguments like that that makes you guys lose the battle of ideas here. You're confusing opposition to gun control to be opposition to murder control. Fatal mistake.

Crazy cravings, like possessing a gun to protect myself and my loved ones?

I have no problem with defending your family. If someone was attacking my family, I'd shoot too, but not to kill, unless needed. Jesus told the disciples to carry swords, so I get it. I'm just talking about those that 'need' guns.
There's the idolatry straw man again.

It's not idolatry. It's choosing to fight where the fight is. Why does the desire to restrict others not qualify as idolatry?

Barry from KY wrote:
I totally agree with you jamesc! But, you are not going to convince anyone here at SA. They will have a comeback for everything you offer. I'm not against the second amendment either. I personally own no guns and have no plans to buy any. Awsome post Bro.
You fail to win the battle of ideas here, because rather than use good logic you hurl accusations of vigilantism, idolatry, anarchism, rebellion, or any other straw man under the sun. It's predictable.

I also don't buy the claim that you're in favor of the right to bear arms, because you decry it often. You seem to be more interested in forcing others to live by the restrictions of your conscience. The first time I responded to an article here about guns, you told me that I deserve a visit from the FBI. What am I supposed to do with that?

The FLDS is missing a golden opportunity to strike here. The definition of marriage has been fumbled.

I'm always smug around people who pretend to be Christian, but carry around weapons that are only effective for one thing killing people. Vigilantes are not lawmen.
Non-sequitor. Carrying a weapon is not un-Christian. It may be un-Jimlike, but it isn't un-Christlike. I'm defending my right to keep and bear arms. I'm not advocating vigilantism. Nothing brings out the straw men like a gun argument, though.

I didn't shoot Giffords or 20 kids, so why should my rights be curtailed because someone else did? Where else do you apply that logic? Letter openers?

I never argued that anyone has a right to commit murder, so please stop implying that I did.

Your point?

Do you know what your neighbors are doing right now? They might be molesting their children! You'd better get off the computer and swear out a warrant before it's too late! Better yet, forget the fourth amendment. That's a relic of the revolutionary period with no application today. Just turn them in.

Protecting children from abuse has nothing to do with regulating home schooling. Don't conflate them. You desire to control other people. I think we should leave people alone unless we have credible evidence that they are actually hurting someone. The disagreement on this issue and the gun issue are just symptoms of that.

Actually, the Mecca of Mormonism is Utah, and I've lived there, too. More importantly, what difference does it make?

Oh look, Jim wants government to control the internal affairs of other people.

I'm shocked.

Jim/Peace, if it violates your conscience to carry a gun, don't carry a gun. The paternalistic smugness apparent in your posts is really annoying. There's nothing un-Christian about being armed.

Again, if you repeal the second amendment, it does nothing to the right to bear arms. It only makes that right harder to protect. That's like saying abolishing the foot as a unit of measurement makes one's height variable. It doesn't. It just makes it harder to quantify.

How horrible.

I guess this doesn't count as a war on women since I haven't heard the left in America complain about it.

I used to live in Connecticut. I paid the bribe to the police so I could carry a gun, and I carried in church often. I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I'm sure that any "enlightened" person next to me would have been horrified if my concealment had briefly failed. It's pretty Orwellian.

Please drop the arrogance, Jim. Quit calling people who disagree with you "hill-billies", and engage your opponent on the argument.

Peace, something was learned. There is no "safe" place, and people are waking up to that and providing for their own security. The "I know better than you" mentality is fading, at least for the time being.

At least the Christian school is honest and doesn't pretend to be religiously neutral when it enforces one faith. Public schools are bastions of atheism but pretend not to be.

My problem is that people are carring them around and I don't know which one of those people are going to be carelss. Can anyone on these message boards tell me when someone will decide to be careless? Nope, so to protect my family, not from a 'gang banger' or a crazy person, but from a guy packing a gun who has no malice in his intent, should I refrain from going out to dinner?
Can you tell me when and where someone will go crazy and start hurting people? Nope, so to protect me and my family from someone who has malicious intent, I will continue to carry my gun. The protection of myself and my family trumps your squeamishness.
