At the risk of being called a "political Christian" I think that the answer Mrs. Bachmann gave was good for the type of public forum she was at. Actually, she is giving the most credible Christian witness of all the so-called conservative candidates on the GOP ticket; and please know I am not one who advocates women in leadership roles. However, she does have my respect even though I can't support her candiacy for President of the US.

I appreciate your stand. I looked at your website for a few minutes and hope to have a more thorough look when I have the time. Your post brought a question to my mind. From a woman's perspective, do you think that a woman who holds to the biblical gender order of authority is less likely to be pro-choice than a woman who holds to gender equality. I think I know the answer, but I am very interested in your thoughts. Frankly, a feminist couldn't give an honest answer to the question - that's why I ask you. If you can recommend a link that deals with that I would appreciate it. I think a lot of women aren't hearing the truth concerning the relationship between abortion and submission.

Your post really blessed me!

San Jose John Very good post!

To think that when Jesus said Adam existed, that would have settled it?

Come to think of it, on so many issues, we "christians" and "evangelicals" stand in direct contradiction to what Jesus says, I'm beginning to doubt if Jesus was Christian!

"...I'm beginning to doubt if Jesus was Christian!"

Very interesting observation CV! But that is exactly what questioning the Old Testament suggests. It is also to imply that Jesus Christ was either ignorant, indifferent, or a liar. What a dreadful position to put ourselves in, but even worse, what a terrible position to put Jesus Christ in.

Ps 119:160 "Thy word [is] true [from] the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments [endureth] for ever."

Isn't it very troubling that those who come up with these "headline titles" often leave out pertinent words? This is very misleading, but it does have the tendency to draw attention to the article. This particular article is mistitled:

"Evangelicals Question The Existence Of Adam And Eve."

Wouldn't it have been much closer to the truth to have said, "Some Evangelicals Question..." or "Some apostate evangelicals Question..."

To simply say, "Evangelicals Question..." is to imply something which is untrue and it ought to upset those who hold to the truth of the Bible and the truth in principle.

"To live in a neglect of love, in all the effects and fruits of it, towards such on any pretenses, to design their hurt and evil, is to live in open contradiction unto all the rules of the gospel.

Such severe thoughts are the principal causes and occasion of all pernicious evils in religion, especially those which are most scandalous unto it, and most inconsistent with that good of mankind which Christian religion is designed to promote; for things are come to that pass among the generality of Christians, that when once persons begin to damn others in their minds for their dissent from them, they judge themselves at liberty, and count that it is their duty, to do them all the mischief they can in this world. They first make themselves their judges that they must go to hell, and then would be their executioners, to send them thither as fast as they can. Whether this be a representation of Christ or of the devil is not hard to determine. Sure I am, it is not compliant with the advice given unto all guides of the church, of an attendance whereunto they must give an account, 2 Tim 2:24-26:

“And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves;...”" (John Owen -Volume 14, pg 486)

"...if any of those men, which, illuminated only by the light of nature, did see and pronounce the causes sufficient why women ought not to bear rule nor authority, should this day live and see a woman sitting in judgment, or riding from Parliament in the midst of men, having the royal crown upon her head, the sword and the scepter borne before her, in sign that the administration of justice was in her power: I am assuredly persuaded, I say, that such a sight should so astonish them, that they should judge the whole world to be transformed into the Amazons, and that such a metamorphosis and change was made of all the men of that country, as poets do feign was made of the companions of Ulysses; or at least, that albeit the outward form of men remained, yet should they judge their hearts were changed from the wisdom, understanding, and courage of men, to the foolish fondness and cowardice of women. Yea, they further should pronounce, that where women reign or be in authority, that there must needs vanity be preferred to virtue, ambition and pride to temperance and modesty; and finally, that avarice, the mother of all mischief, must needs devour equity and justice." John Knox

Thanks Michael,

I have added it to my favorites so I can download and listen to it. I have a slow land line so need to go to library to download anything too big.

I have seen a number of young people's lifes ruined by poorly supervised gender associations while participating within a youth group.

Dear Lurker,

As Protestants love the Bible, so does the Catholic Church:

Your Catholic Friend

Yea, Right! Pardon me for butting in Lurker, but it's hard to remain silent at such a rediculous statement.

The Roman Catholic Catechism Paragraph #97 says, "Sacred tradition and sacred scripture make up a single, sacred deposit of the Word of God."

Also,

"Consequently it is not from Sacred Scripture alone that the Church draws her certainty about everything which has been revealed. Therefore both sacred tradition and Sacred Scripture are to be accepted and venerated with the same sense of loyalty and reverence. – Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation (Dei Verbum), promulgated by Paul VI on November 18, 1965, Chap. 2, para 10"

Re 22:18 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:"

Re 22:19 "And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book."

Nothing mentioned about tradition. Hmmm!

...it's vital and biblical to hear both sides of the story, wouldn't you agree?
No, I don't agree! And neither do you! It's biblical to test and expose error by the light of Scripture. Richard Bennett, who is a former Roman Catholic priest, has done just that in the sermon (discussion) which I linked to - comparing your churches catechism with the Bible. Tell me, where he has erred? It's totally unscriptural to be indifferent concerning error.

Ro 1:18 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness..."

Even your pretense that there is no problem with open dialog between light and darkness is a bold lie, and one that many have been ensnared by.

Ephesians 5:13 "But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light."

"You don't spank children today," said Judge Jose Longoria. "In the old days, maybe we got spanked, but there was a different quarrel. You don't spank children."

"Withhold not correction from the child: for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell." Pr 23:13-14

Who you gonna believe? This misguided judge or God?

The atheists in this article speak as if Camping represents all of Christianty. He does not! He put himself above God's Word and God proved him a failure.

Camping needs to repent and apologize to all of his followers. And his followers need to decide whether he is worthy of their confidence.

The whole thing is really very sad...

Tony,

If web-space were paper, Sermon Audio would need to charge you extra for using so much. Do you really think people read again that which you have posted more than once? You might try to restrain yourself for the sake of others. But then, we see nearly every post what you think of others.

BTW, Tony, GOD'S PERFECT WILL is this:

"And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment." 1 John 3:23

Doesn't appear that you really take God's perfect will after all...

Tell me, this little article is a pdf file, so is it possible to save it as a pdf and store it on the computer. It looks to be an excellent article to give to folks who are confused by the subject and who have no teaching in it.
May the Lord give you great fatherly wisdom.
John,

Chapel library has given permission to download any of their tracts and booklets which are posted on their website. Their Website is at:

]]Chapel Library - A Ministry of Mount Zion Bible Church

You can actually simply right click on the link which I provided in my original post and follow the menu which pops up (Save Target As) to download the booklet "ENGLISH BIBLE TRANSLATIONS: BY WHAT STANDARD?". Yes! It will save it as a PDF file. Remember, if you rename it, you can't use certain punctuation, such as colons or question marks within the title.

Hi Alan, good to hear from you. Your input is always a joy to read, and you have been missed brother. I trust all is well, or at least as well as can be expected? I am recuperating from a minor op, so am posting a bit more than usual while time passes until I can get back to my painting.

Which link were you referring to?
______________
If I've missed anyone, please do refer me to your post, as I'm playing catchup.

Sorry John, the link I was referring to was:

]]ENGLISH BIBLE TRANSLATIONS: BY WHAT STANDARD?

I vaguely remember you expressing an interest in the booklet when WEB initially posted the link. After reading it, it seemed to me that it was very much in line with your own views on the subject.

John, thanks for the very kind words. I have been a little distracted with my daughter's courtship. It has been up and down emotionally and may end soon in failure, but better to find out now rather than after marriage. I do keep up with reading the posts, but I don't have the time or energy to participate much.

Hope your surgery went well.

Lord Bless you!
