Folks in normal occupations are subject to employment contracts that detail that intellectual property rights on anything developed or written in company time is the property of the employer.

Pastors in contrast often spend their office hours writing books or commentaries, are also given paid sabbaticals to write books and do research, have their sermons or conference addresses turned into books by others with little additional work and ... who then owns the royalties and income from the books?

When pastors do pulpit swaps, do they retain their full salaries and then also have each church typically pay for their visiting preacher's time and labour as well?

Can we now likewise expect to see an accurate and biblical presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ in state schools? Together with a critical appraisal of where false churches depart from the Bible? Excellent place to start teaching real analytical thinking skills.

I'd rather not get drawn into how pastors are paid right now.

My concern is that we maintain the biblical view of the true value of a man's work and labour and character.

The prayer request however asked that we might pray that he would find something more 'God honoring'. I think the reference was more to do with wage levels than the presumably 'dishonourable' nature of customer service work or a desire to return to the ministry.

With all due respect to Steve Lee's everywhere I think the Puritans would have had some very direct advice in response to that comment.
