Preacher said something while preaching on John last night that convicted me deeply.
He said that God loves us all the same, but we don’t all love God the same.
Jesus loved His disciples equally, so much so that they had no idea that it was Judas who would betray their Savior...because Judas was treated no differently than the others.
All questioned among themselves who the traitor might be, all except John, because John loved Jesus more than the others.
While Peter made promises he couldn’t keep, John rested in Christ’s bosom.
While Judas counted his money, John rested in Christ’s bosom.
While James & the others wondered who would be greatest among them, John rested in Christ’s bosom.
Because John was willing to
Sit where no one else will sit...in the bosom of Christ...
Stand where no one else will stand...at the foot of the cross at Calvary....
Serve where no one else will serve...took Mary as his own mother...
John was able to
See what no one else has yet seen...the Beginning and the End.
John showed up in the middle when Christ suffered the most & John saw the beginning,
(John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.)
& he saw the end
(Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:).
John gave Him unrivaled love & devotion.
John loved Him most. Even when it was hardest.
Now as I and my family face one of the hardest times in our lives, when it’s going to be hardest to love Jesus because this is when we understand least what is happening...
