Sermon:
The Way of Blessedness
Gil Rugh

comment
“ Choose your friends wisely! ”
Unofficial brief ¶ Psalm 1 lays the theme for the whole book of Psalms and even of Proverbs. It contrasts the child of God to the one who isn't. Happinesses are the lot of the children of God. This isn't superficial happiness. This is contrasted with the miserable end of the wicked. Wicked, scoffers, and sinners are all the same people. ¶ Parallelism is an important part of Jewish poetry, as can be seen in ¶¶Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man who doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in Yahweh's law. On his law he meditates day and night. 3 He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper. ¶ 4 The wicked are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For Yahweh knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.¶¶ We are to live in the World but not of the world. We are to be shaped by what God says, not what the World wants. A man who has happiness within has not joined the World's pattern of life.

True Riches

“ Your Wealth should be your faith in Christ. ”
Unofficial Brief ¶ Everything is under God's control, but that doesn't free us trying times. The Christian Jews of the diaspora suffered persecution from gentiles for being Jews and were rejected by Jews because they were Christian. They needed wisdom from God to face these trials. Consider it a joy that you are going through trials because God is maturing you. A two-souled man will not receive anything from the Lord. Their confusions just get worse. ¶ James 1:9 But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position; 10 and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away. ¶ The book of James if filled with 54 commands in 108 verses. Those were two of the commands. Exalt having Christ as your Lord! ¶ The people of great wealth and honor are the men come from the grace of God. Remember Americans even many of the poor are much richer than people in other parts of the world, one's material wealth is not the measure of a Christian's wealth. The Bible doesn't condemn material wealth, it warns of the danger in trusting in material wealth. Read Psalms 49:1-16 ¶ Be content; money is the root of many evils. You should worry more that your children know the Lord, rather than get wealthy. They have to walk with the Lord.

“ Be Warned about the Cult of Personality ”
I would just add since on SermonAudio we have seen stories of "Pastors" who have gained noterority for their personalities rather than from the grace of God and for accurately preaching the Word of God! ¶ The short and accurate summary given for Dr. Rugh's sermon is fine. However, looking at what has happened that has over the last decade I give you in addition what Adam Clarke had to say on the following verse, ¶ "I Corinthians 3:4: ¶ Verse 4. For while one saith, I am of Paul, notorious that both Paul and Apollos held the same creed; between them there was not the slightest difference: when, therefore, the dissentients began to prefer the one to the other, it was the fullest proof of their carnality; because in the doctrines of these apostles there was no difference: so that what the people were captivated by must be something in their outward manner, Apollos being probably more eloquent than Paul. Their preferring one to another on such an account proved that they were carnal-led by their senses and mere outward appearances, without being under the guidance either of reason or grace. There are thousands of such people in the Christian Church to the present day. ¶ 1Co 1:10,"

“ Trials build character--also proclaim the Gospel ”
Unofficial Brief ¶ God has trials come into our lives to shape us to be better Christians. It's a perfecting work. ¶ James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. ¶ Great men like Abraham, matured under trial. We aren't to sin during trials! God never, ever intends for a person to sin during a trial. Don't blame God, blame yourself when you sin. God is the good giver, He doesn't withhold good things to make us better, Any gift that is truly good is from God, and Satan only give evil things. ¶ James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. ¶ No one is ever saved by observing a life of a person. You must hear or read the Gospel to be saved. There is no one saving a person without hearing the Gospel. The Gospel--present it everywhere!

“ Men Who Commit Adultery Are Fools! ”
Unofficial brief ¶ The bulk of this sermon tells how the Book of Proverbs, points out what a fool an adulterous man is! Proverbs is about the man passing on wisdom to his son. This (God's) wisdom is to immerse the son in his life. Man is the leader of the home not as a petty dictator but as thoughtful leader of the home but as member of society. Man is to provide, protect, and lead in the context of God's wisdom. ¶ Sin eats away on the inside, Its God's way or the miserable way. Don't reject the discipline of the Lord be a teachable man. The Wisdom of God will watch over you. ¶ One of the best types of training for a child is having them thoroughly know Proverbs. Fill their lives with it. ¶ Proverbs spend the most time about the man being faithful to his wife. A man must be devoted to his wife. Men, it's a dead-end to commit adultery. Sin makes you stupid! e.g., see Chap. 5 . ¶ Gil who talked to men who are adulterers and profess to be believers, he calls them fools! Your wife has a fool for husband. The kids have a fool for a father! Gil told a minister who wrecked his ministry because of adultery, that he was a fool. He didn't belong in the ministry, because he kept his adulteress close. ¶ While the stain of adultery can never be removed, God will forgive the sinner.

“ Great Sermon on Reading Proverbs! ”
Unofficial Brief ¶ Senator Moynihan, pointed that 'Marshall McCuen said, "If the bath water is raised 1° every 10 minutes when will a person know when to scream?" Defining deviousness down--America is undergoing a profound social crisis, and America is pretending it isn't happening. America is in denial. Being in hot water is being normalized to the point where it doesn't need to be commented on by Americans. What would be considered deviant behavior is now classified as normal. A vast social disaster is in the making. We are trying to normalize destructive behaviors' [combination of direct and indirect quotations?] ¶ Romans 1:21 Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened ¶ The simplest, least educated believer in Jesus Christ understands what the most intelligent, educated non-Christians can't! Believing in the Bible gives the only intelligent answers to a person. Reading through Proverbs once a month would be a useful goal. ¶ Proverbs 1:7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction. ¶ The man is the center of the home. He is responsible for the condition of his home. When a fool is leading the home--chaos!

“ Fathers teach your sons to work! ”
Unofficial Brief! ¶ Remember to start with Genesis for the foundation of the roles of men and women. They are spiritual equals but they have different roles. ¶ Colossians 3:18 Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. ¶ 19 Husbands, love your wives, and don't be bitter against them. ¶ Being father-centered is an integral part of being a Christian family. ¶ The man is to be the provider. The Bible talks about man not to be lazy, but not about working too hard! It does talk about man's working to fulfill his greed which is wrong, but providing for the family is right. Men who don't function according to the Word of God, are fools. Proverbs 3:13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. ¶ 14 For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. 15 She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her. Proverbs 15:16 Better is little, with the fear of Yahweh, than great treasure with trouble. ¶ Model and teach Proverbs to your children. Get of the treadmill for getting more, but the most important thing in life if not financial success, but living your life for God. This is what to teach your children! Warn your children of material vanity.

Sermon:
Sex In Marriage
Gil Rugh
1
comment
“ Take the Song of Solomon Literally! ”
Observation on the use of the Song of Solomon ¶ While the sermon itself gives the proper venue of where the God-given sexual desires of men and women are to be fulfilled, I will let the people who do the formal summaries expound on that for this sermon. ¶ I wish to point out that segment of the sermon in which the book of Song of Solomon is expositionally treated as it should be -- literally. The malingering plague of Romish allegory is seen to be wrong here. Man's misguided, prudish desire to hide God's sexual design for a man and woman in a marriage relationship. Starting at 21:25 minutes into the sermon, Dr. Rugh points out the eight chapters of the Song of Solomon is devoted to physical love and the emotions that go with it. Spiritualizing this book is wrong. This book is not talking about a spiritual relationship between Christ and the Church. It's talking about expression of physical love in marriage. The Song of Solomon is not some spiritual allegory. Sex is beautiful in the marriage relationship. ¶ There is to be a strong physical desire for the woman for the man. The man is to have that for the woman. They are to be totally enthralled with each other and completely loyal to each other through their entire lives. Physical love is an integral part of marriage.

“ The Tongue Is Often the Tool of the Devil ”
Unofficial brief ¶ James is concerned about the tongue. He has gotten reports back from the diaspora that they haven't been using their tongues doesn't reflect the work of God in their lives. A truly mature person controls his tongue and can control the other aspects of living. True maturity of a believer is shown in the use of his tongue. ¶ Almost no one can control their tongue -- but there's no excuse for not controlling it! James 3:2 For in many things we all stumble. If anyone doesn't stumble in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. ¶ James points out, though the tongue is a small part of the body, it has great influence--put a bit on it! James goes on to point out the trouble the tongue causes. ¶ James 3:5 So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! Proverbs 16:27 A worthless man devises mischief. His speech is like a scorching fire. 28 A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends. ¶ How does one deal with a rumor? It's not like a specific sin which can [and should! ] be dealt with openly. James was addressing believers who were using their tongues like unbelievers. He reminds them what God has said about the tongue; it's a world of iniquity.

“ Pay attention on what you see in the mirror. ”
Unofficial brief! ¶ James points out the importance of functioning as God's people under trial. Trials are God's way to mature us, but never lead us into sin. Testings come to refine us. All gifts come from God, including the ultimate gift -- the salvation we have in Christ. ¶ James 1:19 So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. ¶ We have to turn away from sin as believers, no compromise with our own sin. Prove to be doers and not just hearers of the Word. James draws from the Old Testament. Know the Old Testament. The Law was given to guide conduct. Jews were to do all the Words of the Law. Just sitting in Bible studies doesn't save you. It's important to be taught the Word. The question is what is my life like? How conformed to the Word of God is it? Our behavior is the proof of God's work in our lives. ¶ We have many people raised in and attending churches but have never been born again. They are deluding themselves. People are known by their fruits. What's being produced in one's life, shows the truth.

“ Great Sermon! on Proverbs 31:10-31 ”
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+31%3A10-31&version=NASB (Proverbs 31:10-31) Dr. Rugh goes into --great-- detail on these verses. ¶ The kindness, diligence, dedication, and intelligence of the wife is glorified in these verses. Much of the sermon is dedicated to these verses. A foolish wife or husband will greatly adds tension to a marriage. ¶ Proverbs 31 27 She looks well to the ways of her household, and doesn’t eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her: 29 “Many women do noble things, but you excel them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands! Dr. Rugh then goes to 1 Timothy to see how the above verses are reflected in the New Testament. He also pointed out how to treat widows. ¶ Titus 2:3 and that older women likewise be reverent in behavior, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good; 4 that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children.

“ Husband&Wife United --but key roles for the woman! ”
Unofficial Brief! ¶ Dr. Rugh has been looking primarily at the roles that God has given to men and women, through this series of studies. God is patricentric. The woman is the helper to the man and she functions under his care. These roles are controversial in our society where the woman is to be a competitor with the man. A unisex society is not God's plan. ¶ The role of woman, as wife, mother, the keeper of the home, and as usual, the opening chapters of Genesis, reveals something of his plans for us as men and women. ¶ Genesis 1:27 God created man in his own image. In God's image he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them. God said to them, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it.... ¶ There's an order in the Creation. Through the rest of Scripture a woman's role as mother is central. The Old Testament only addresses men and women in a married relationship. Only the New Testament addresses the single life. ¶ Genesis 2:18 Yahweh God said, "It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." 23 ... 24 Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh." ¶ This is emphasized in both Testaments. ¶ The woman is the diligent despot of the home!

“ A teacher is faithful with whole Word of God ”
Unofficial Brief! ¶ James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves. ¶ Both are actions and our words are important. In Chap. 3, James looks at the importance of words, not only do works prove your faith or the lack of it but also the use of your tongue. ¶ Mat. 12:33 "Either make the tree good, and its fruit good, or make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. 36 I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." ¶ Dr. Rugh used examples from Proverbs before continuing with James 3. Remember, don't many of you become teachers! There are too many men preaching, as Dr. Rugh's mother pointed out and Gil has discouraged men from going into the ministry. Teachers will have a stricter judgment than those who aren't teachers. The gift of teaching is not a cause of pride but fear. Characteristics of a teacher, he must know, live, and teach the truth. It is blessing for men who are careful with the Word. A teacher must have a life that shows he's Godly.

“ Husbands are to manage their households well ”
Unofficial brief! ¶ Men and women will be married and have children, is the rule rather than the exception. God is sovereign over all these details in our lives! The most important relationship is the husband & wife and when they are Godly then the home and children will be pleasing to God. ¶ Genesis 2:23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called ‘woman,' because she was taken out of Man." 24 Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. ¶ This is the most important human relationship that there is! This relationship supercedes everything else except one's relationship to God. ¶ Parents deal with children as one. They present a united front to their children and the children are to be obedient to their children. Men are responsible for the condition of the home. Men raise their children by the Word by speech and action. Its one's modeling the Word, by his treatment of his wife and his wife's willing obedience to him. You can't be, "losing it," when parents are under pressure. Every aspect of the home is governed by the Word of God. The general truth: ¶ Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

“ Great Sermon! ”
http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=2170612618 (How the Church Must Deal with Sin) Is the sermon to look at, Responder, the summary of that sermon was short and to the point, it's good enough to say I wish I had written that! ¶ "Sin in the church must be dealt with according to the instruction God has given. Within the church - that is the dwelling place of God - blatant immorality cannot be practiced, nor tolerated. When the church fails to carry out its responsibility to deal with sin, God will - and it will be painful to the church and the individual." ¶ SermonAudio has been putting up several threads of immorality of pastors. When the problem reaches that high up these people should be removed permanently from the pastorate. One has to remember the priest Eli and his sons of the Old Testament, and finally God had to handle that problem. ¶ It needs to be pointed out that sin within the Christian body is handled differently from that in the secular world. See the sermon on handling (The Inadequacy of Moralism) which is near this sermon, on how Christians are to view the sinning of non-Christians. But, that sermon and the first one will give a good idea on how Christians should approach the problem of sinning inside and outside the Church.

“ Great Sermon! ”
The question is this: Is the Lord your saviour? Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. Not every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is saviour. But the whole world will confess Jesus Christ as someone to pay homage. Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God (Isaiah 44:6). But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD (Psalm 37:39) He that is our God is the God of salvation; (68:20). It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.(Lam 3:26). I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour (Isaiah 43:11). God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36). No one can make God anything.
