I. In living according to these commandments, the Israelites were to do three things: 1. Show gratitude to God their redeemer - Loving Praise 2. Demonstrate the character of God in their behavior -- A light to the nations, a blessing to all nations. Health, wholeness, integrity -- Shalom! 3. Understand their need of the ultimate Redeemer, the Messiah II. The commandments serve the very same purposes for us today. 1. We are a people saved by grace alone - not by works. But we are called to good works, in part, to show gratitude to God. 2. As we live according to the commandments, we fulfill our calling to demonstrate the character of God in our behavior -- We are a light to the nations, a blessing to all nations. Health, wholeness, integrity. 3. Because we often fail in keeping God's commandments we are humble (not proud) and understand our constant need of the ultimate Redeemer, the Messiah - Jesus Christ.
