When it says in verse 30 that we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones, what does it mean? Well, it does not mean His physical flesh and bones, obviously. Christ was not married during His earthly lifetime. But rather it means that we, His saints, are members of His spiritual body, the Church. And this is because we are married to Him spiritually speaking. He is the head of His spiritual body the Church. And we are, all of us together, His spiritual body. This idea, however, needs some development. And so let us see whether we can gain some spiritual understanding of this mystery by asking 3 questions. 1st – In what sense are we members of Christ's body, His flesh and His bones individually as believers? 2nd – In what sense does Christ leave His father and mother to be joined to His wife? And 3rd – In what sense shall the two become one flesh, spiritually in terms of the Universal Church? May the Lord grant wisdom and illumination to our minds and hearts through this study.
