Abraham sojourned in the land of promise, which means he lived there as if he was just passing through. He built no permanent dwelling, but lived in tents his whole life, even though he was rich and had the means to build a permanent house. This was the perspective all those mentioned in Hebrews 11 had on this earthly life. The result of true faith will make all who believe look at this life the same way. We are just strangers here and pilgrims on a journey, just passing through here for a time. Our home is beyond all this and we are looking for a city that hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
