Psalm 9:17 says, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.” On this 4th anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist attack and in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, we need the hard truth for hard times that is found in this holy text. This sermon is a WARNING to mankind and the nations and a watchman's assessment of America's plight. It is the first sermon in a three sermon series, and deals primarily with two unpopular truths. The basic problem of mankind is that they are “wicked,” not unchurched or hurting. It is certain that they are unchurched and hurting, but it is repentance of wickedness and faith in Christ that will save them from hell, stop the hurting and bring them into church as worshipers of the Lord. Hell is the real issue of salvation! It is outer darkness, a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth, where the worm does not die and the flame is not quenched. Hell is not “eternal separation from God,” nor is it a “Christless eternity.” Hell is the fullness of God's omnipotent wrath, everlastingly poured out upon the wicked. Jesus died to save men from the wrath of God. He did not die to save mankind from emotional pain, low self-esteem, being unchurched or without purpose. We call Him Savior, but without the truth of what He saves us from we make the title “Savior” to be sentimental silliness. America desperately needs to hear that, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God.”
