Now in Acts 3 – another amazing event has left the crowd astounded. This miracle gives Peter another chance to proclaim Christ. I have chosen 5 words to help us work our way through Peter's sermon. With each word, I will give you a short phrase that you can write in your notes.
1) Jesus – All He is and has done – v13-16 Before Peter explicitly declares that Jesus is the one who healed this man in v16, he wants to lay the groundwork of who Jesus is in v13-15. Understanding who Jesus is will help them believe what Jesus does. That is why Peter uses so many titles for Jesus in these verses: His Servant / Holy & Righteous One / Author of Life Their rejection of Jesus, put them in direct opposition to God. They are in a very bad position before God! 2) Response – The Proper Response is Repentance & faith – turning to Jesus – v17-19 Peter emphasizes it by basically saying the same thing twice - repent and turn. Repentance is a change in direction. It is the crowd's view of Jesus that needs to change. 3) Promise = Proper Response Brings Blessing. Blessing Comes Through Turning – v19-21 First Blessing = Total Forgiveness of sins – v19 Second blessing = Spiritual refreshment The third blessing = universal restoration 4) Warning = Failure to Turn Brings Total Judgment – v22-23 5) Encouragement = The Bible testifies to these truths. –v24-26
