“…concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.”
A primitive sense of the just stirs with in all people and emits itself in vengeful passions. There are many different kinds of day dreams but one of the most common are elaborate schemes of Revenge. “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” The proverb is common in so many different traditions that no one knows where it originated. God doesn't deny this popular emotion for revenge. He does, however, restrain it with a command. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord (Romans 12:19 Nasb). God restrains this emotion, not by belittling the desire but by claiming the domain of vengeance as His own. Around this desire for justice and the ache for revenge the Spirit comes again to convict and convince us that there is judgment being made and justice being prepared. This is both a cause of comfort and of fear. What is judgment? The word in Greek is Krisis. It means to separate out all the facts in order to make a proper determination of guilt. It is upon good judgment that justice then is carried out. From this verse we can understand that right now the Holy Spirit is setting a conviction in the heart of the individual that a proper accounting is taking place and that a true work of justice will henceforth be carried out.
