Paul is like some fictional hero, only better! His physical strength is remarkable, but his spiritual strength the more remarkable; nothing can stop him. Having been stoned nearly to death at Lystra, he gets up and goes back into the city - and the next day departs for Derbe before returning to Lystra and other places where attempts have been made on his life.
As for us, we are not as strong as Paul - and neither are we as strong as we think.
Only when we see that we are not what we are supposed to be, and that the Christian life requires that we are strong, will we commit to the kind of training that is designed to make us strong.
The truth is that we are in combat, and that persecutions will certainly come. We need to be strengthened.
