Christ's instructions in the Great Commission are clear. Under His absolute authority we are to proclaim His redemptive work and command that men everywhere repent. Those who answer the Gospel call are to receive the sign and seal of the covenant and be taught all that Christ commanded. That's the mission of the church. While many today advocate redefining the mission in terms of alternate methods of evangelism, the Apostle Paul is clear that God delighted to chose a message (the cross) and a method (preaching) that the world would consider foolish. Those who would devise culturally relevant methods of reaching people should take note of Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 1:20-25. The Apostle didn't condone finding a method of evangelism tailored to the "sign-seeking Jews" or the "wisdom seeking Greeks." They were all to be reached the same way, by the foolishness of preaching.
