In Amos 2:4-16 we hear The Lion roar two oracles of judgment against His own people. The first oracle is: Judah is guilty of breaking their covenant with Yahweh (vs. 4-5). The second oracle is: Israel is guilty of social injustice and idolatry in spite of God's blessings--(a) they prevent the poor from obtaining justice (v. 6); (b) they injure the poor and ignore the afflicted (v. 7a and 8a); (c) they commit idolatry and sexual immorality (vs. 7b-8); (d) they ignore the blessings of God (vs. 9-11); (e) they abuse the gifts of God (v. 12); and (f) they will not escape God's judgment (vs. 13-16).
