What is of great interest in this passage is the insight we get into Paul's heart and his concern for the brethren who were suffering in Jerusalem. This concern never left his mind throughout his whole ministry and we see that it was manifested in a very practical way. What we learn is that if one has really understood theological truth, it will evidenced by very earthly or practical living and relating. While the truth of God's word is deep and intellectually stunning, if the person who wields the sword of the Spirit intellectually does not also clearly demonstrate the earthiness and practicality of this truth in his won life, then one has to question whether he really understands God's truth. In these words we also learn about the importance of personal sacrifice and being transparent in our actions.
