The only real assurance the Bible gives that one will inherit all that God has promised his children, comes through faith and this never changes throughout our lives, from the moment we are justified until we are glorified. Though believers are fully and freely justified by God's grace, they are forever aware of their own sin and failure to measure up to God's righteous standard. Believers ought to seek to grow daily in godliness and confess their sin when they fail, but their assurance of their glorious inheritance is never to rest upon what they have done, for throughout their lives they must rest upon Christ's merit alone. It is Christ's work alone that has satisfied divine justice and therefore, the only basis for being declared just rests forever upon Christ's work--His righteous life, His sacrifice upon the cross and His intercession now at the right hand of the Father. There is no basis for ever feeling confident in ourselves, no matter how “saintly” we become.
