At first glance, the genealogies and deaths of Abraham and Ishmael seem strikingly similar. But further study reveals Ishmael was merely the beneficiary of God's common grace - a grace which he rejected, incidentally. On the other hand, Abraham gladly received God's covenant grace, drawing him into relationship with the Creator. This enabled Abraham to die in faith, knowing that one day God would give him the 'not yet' of His kingdom/covenant blessings and inheritance.
