Often, the Apostle Paul had the Isthmus Games or Olympic Games on his mind as he wrote the scriptures, but he liked to translate it over to The Christian Race. As the Apostle Paul was in prison chained to a Roman guard, he is thinking of running for a higher prize—Jesus Christ. He wrote in Philippians 3:14, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” He desired the Philippian church to walk in unity, humility, and joy through the hope in the Gospel. He wanted his life and labors to have meaning, and in the end, he wanted to have something of eternal value on the day of Christ (Phil. 1:6, 2:16). He did not want to waste his life on fruitless endeavors.
