If we live at all in the realm of reality we are going to come head-to-head with the problems of life. If we are going to be godly then we are going to commit to people, we are going to make ourselves vulnerable and we are going to risk our pride and personal comfort. If we do all of these—which is Christ-likeness—we will be hurt, used and abused, stepped on and walked over, rejected and criticized (2 Timothy 3:12). BUT in all this we are to be joyful (1 Thess 5:16; Philippians 4:4). Of course, we are not to go through life as frivolous light-heads—like an empty bottle bobbing on the waves of time with not sense of reality. We are to anchor our hopes and happiness in an unchanging and gracious God from whom we can find true, lasting and deep joy.
