Every parent knows something of the concern and heartache brought about by a wayward child. Isaiah begins with such an image – the Lord lamenting over his foolish and rebellious children. Our sin not only evokes God's wrath, it wearies him and grieves him to his heart. Yet, in gracious love he urges his children to turn back to him, promising them full forgiveness and abundant blessing. The Lord himself will see to it that Jerusalem is redeemed and will again be called a 'city of righteousness.' But he also warns of what refusal to heed his word will mean. May we hear this word ourselves and not refuse the grace of God in our Lord Jesus Christ.
