Can marriage and family be healthy and can broken homes be restored? Does anyone care about the pain, hurt, and agony which broken homes and ungodliness have created? As God closed the OT with Malachi’s writings, He stated, “4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: 6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” God is looking for repentance, reconciliation, and restoration to biblical health in the home, community, and world.
What will it take? I am reminded of a verse in the book of Nehemiah. Nehemiah was heart broken over the condition of the walls in Jerusalem. The people were in fear and shame. Nehemiah was sent to rebuild the walls after Ezra had been there for the reconstruction of the Temple. As the enemy closed in to discourage and defeat the effort to rebuild, Nehemiah made a heart cry to the people, “And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses” (Nehemiah 4:14). Today, I want us to look into Psalm 128 to see what is worth fighting for. We must get back and put first things first. |
