Why did Solomon write Ecclesiastes? Ecclesiastes, like any good sermon, requires a response. Solomon did not - weigh and study and arrange many proverbs with great care, just to impart information, but to change lives, to bring the reader to the place of response. Line after line, precept upon precept, the Preacher has built and illustrated his argument that life without God is vanity. So Solomon comes to the conclusion of the matter. It is not enough to close the book and say, “well that was a good book.” The reader is to respond. Fear God & keep His commandments - for this is where man finds meaning, happiness, yes joy. |
