Zephaniah 1:1-18;2:1-8 Study The "day of the Lord" is frequently discussed as an apocalyptic, final expression of God's wrath upon unrighteous nations and people. Zephaniah used this expression more than any other prophet. But the day of the Lord was also used to express God's judgment throughout history on those people and nations who defied God, whether they were pagan nations or the very people of God. King Josiah was bringing back spiritual reform to Israel, and God promised to bring judgment and accountability upon anyone, including Judah, if they did not repent of their idolatry and renew their complete allegiance to Him.It is a warning against presumption upon God's grace and a loving rebuke while there is still time to return to God. It is an indictment against those who have misunderstood the patience and promises of God. Zephaniah shows how God's justice & Love work together to give the world hope, purifying his people and restoring Jerusalem.Today more than ever it is a message of revival for our nation. It is also a challenge for God's people to commit themselves to Him with a renewed consecration and devotion that brings down His favor upon His faithful people. It is a personal call to holiness for each person that confesses Christ and a call to seek God above all things and to live righteously until the day of accountability.Their is hope for the nations of the World & Jerusalem still yet.(3:9) God is faithful to all His promises, for better or worse.
