Because the backside of the race is grueling and difficult, many Christians will be found abandoning their devotion to the Lord. They will replace this devotion with the false teachings of easy-believism; health, wealth, and prosperity; fulfillment; etc. all in an attempt to avoid the pain of the race.
Then we see the Christian solder who while he doesn’t follow the false prophet, nor does he allow his faith to be shaken. Rather because of the wickedness of the day and the long race, his love grows cold. The implication is that he gets caught up with the passing pleasures of sin such that he loses his spiritual vigilance.
Finally, we read of those "who endure"
