When Adam broke the covenant of his God he and all his posterity inherited the curses of that covenant. Yet before God cursed him, He set before him the hope of the gospel: God will send a Savior born of the seed of the woman who will crush the serpent's head and deliver sinners from the power of Satan's kingdom. As men filled the earth the earth was filled with sin, and God promised to destroy man from the face of the earth. Yet He remained true to His promise to send the chosen Seed, so He made His covenant with Noah and preserved a remnant in the earth. As Noah's sons had repopulated the earth, God continued to reveal His redemption to men. Now He would choose a particular man and a particular nation through whom to send the Messiah. His choice? An old barren man who had an old barren wife who was an idolatrous worshipper of the moon! He chose Abram from Ur of the Chaldeans. This sermon sets forth the truth that God chose Abram according to the election of grace and not of merit, in the same manner that He has chosen all of His elect people.
