As Jacob departs from Padan-Haram toward Canaan in obedience to Yahweh's command, we see that Yahweh continues to sustain Jacob. In v. 42 we see a unique description of Yahweh: Jacob calls him "the Fear of Isaac." Jacob had observed and learned that his father had grown to fear Yahweh with supreme respect and submission. Jacob was also learning to fear Yahweh who is worthy of all reverence, awe, and obedience. At the chapter's conclusion we see that Laban's angry pursuit of Jacob ends with a covenant of peace between them.
