Good works cannot be and never were meant to be a substitute for the verbal proclamation of the gospel. In fact it is inherently dishonest to do “good works” without sharing a clear presentation of the plan of salvation. To do good works without sharing Christ is to give satan the opportunity to whisper in the ear of the listener, “See, you can be good without being a Christian. Look at this person, he is not a Bible thumper but look how good he is.” May it never be. We do good, we think of good works, we are able to do good for one and only one reason, our New Birth in Christ. It is not we who lives but Christ who lives in us and to fail to give credit where credit is due, honor where honor is due, praise where praise is due is in and of itself dishonest. We must always proclaim, “The only reason I am able to do good is because of Jesus, let me introduce you to my Savior!”
