This sermon and text represent a continuation of the previous ministry from the Book of James. As we saw last time, the burden of the apostle is not a small and insignificant one. His burden speaks to one of the most fundamental outworkings of the Faith: the application of our blessing in Christ in spite of our own natural unworthiness to the way in which we see others we come in contact with. James pointedly reminded us that we were received by Christ apart from our own merits and that the Lord often chooses to shed His grace on the low, poor and outcast rather than the rich and powerful. And if this is true, how can you and I honor the rich and powerful while dismissing the others? Now, James reminds us that to show this kind of partiality is a sin and a violation of the Law! If one violates this Royal Law, that one has broken the same law as "thou shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not commit adultery"! James wants you to see how serious this matter is; it is evil and ought not be tolerated in the church. – Pastor Schlegel
