All of redemptive history unfolds around these two contrasting realities (cf. Gen 3:15).
As Christians, Scripture informs us that our citizenship is heavenly. We are portrayed by two particular images: the pilgrim and the exile. As pilgrims we learn that this world is not our home. As exiles we are to seek the welfare of the society in which we presently live even though our ultimate allegiance is to a kingdom not of this world.
