The Title of the message is Acting on the Promises of God. God had given Jacob some incredible promises and Jacob believed these promises. We know he believed because he acted on the promises of God. Jacob had built his life on the promises of God and now as his life was coming to an end, he continued to act on them in faith.
In our text today, we will see 3 ways Jacob acted on the Promises of God.
Jacob demonstrated faith in the promises of God by... 1) Securing burial in the Promised Land 2) Adopting & Blessing Joseph's sons Finally, Jacob demonstrated faith in the promises of God by...
3) Worshiping God
Hebrews 11:21 - "By faith Jacob, when dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, bowing in worship over the head of his staff."
This is referring to the last part of Genesis 47 – which reads Then Israel bowed himself upon the head of his bed.
Which is it? Staff or Bed? The difference between the words in Hebrew is very small, since they have exactly the same consonants and only two vowels are different. Whether staff or bed –the picture is that Jacob is so old and feeble that he cannot bow down prostrate on the ground because he might not be able to get up again! But nevertheless – he is worshipping! It doesn't matter how old or weak you are – you can still worship!
