The Heidelberg Catechism says that to pray "your will be done" means to not "back talk" to God. In the Garden of Gethsemane Christ knows what will happen to him in the coming hours, the coming betrayal and crucifixion, but still he does not back talk to God. No, instead Christ will talk too God in earnest prayer, which is much different. So the perfect submission is seen in this text which so clearly shows us that Christ is both fully God (aware of the future) and fully man (able to suffer). In light of what our Savior has done, can we not also make the Lord's Prayer our own?
