He tells us what it was like to be under the law as a covenant of works when he was an unbeliever. There was a time when he knew the law intellectually and thought that all was well with his soul. But then the day came when the Holy Spirit opened his eyes to understand what the law truly and righteously requires of us: not merely external conformity to a standard, but righteousness of intention and motive as well. When Paul saw this, he knew that he was undone. Even so, Jesus Christ breaks every person whom He saves. Has He broken you?
